Study on Care Leavers in Kenya [2022]

Child Frontiers conducted a ground-breaking study on the experiences of care leavers and documented examples of promising practices in care leaver support in Kenya. In addition, the study provided assistance for advocacy efforts with government and other stakeholders using the recommendations that emerged from the research.

Among the key questions to be addressed were:
1. What are the key aspects and factors for successful reintegration and aftercare?
2. What is the regulatory and policy framework for alternative care and care leaving?
3. What support needs should be provided to ensure that children and young people are successfully integrated into families and communities
4. What role can and should care leavers play in care reform.

The research also touched upon the impact of Covid-19 on the experiences of care leavers. The study was conducted in four counties in Kenya, namely Nairobi, Kisumu, Kifili and Garissa.
